In just two weeks will be released the 62nd edition of the Cannes Film Festival. May 13 to May 24, the cream of the big screen will gather in this small French town. As a major new festival will open with a Pixar-animated film Diseny: op. Yet this is not the first time that animation is involved in the formal part of the event.
The jury is made up of big names of world cinema: the famous French actress Isabelle Huppert will preside over a table and the mother is involved in the Korean writer and director Lee Chang-dong, Asia Argento, Italian, American actress Robin Wright Penn a Taiwanese actress Shu Qi, turkish filmmaker Nuri Bilge Ceylan, a British writer Hanif Kureis and the American director James Gray.
This year, Asia and Europe have more presence in the U.S., which is conspicuously absent from the party. What are some names that are competing for the Palme d'Or: Michael Haneke with white ribbon, with Marco Bellocchio Vincere with Ang Lee's Woodstock, take, and with or Tarantino Inglourious Antichrist (which is the only American filmmaker of the North in the festival). There are some directors that the applications are repeated, like Tarantino, who was involved with Pulp Fiction or the Danish director Lars von Trier with Antichrist. Other directors are winning British director Ken Loach Looking for Eric and New Zealander Jane Campion, the first woman to win the Palme d'Or in 1992 with "The Piano" and this year presents "Bright Star" movie.
